GPS Weekly Time Converter

This calculator and converter requires the use of Javascript enabled and capable browsers. In order to convert conventional time to weekly GPS time, select the day of the week, an hour, minute and second and click on Convert. GPS Time is a uniformly counting time scale. GPS time was born at the 1/5/1980 to 1/6/1980 midnight. January 6, 1980 is a Sunday. GPS Time counts in weeks and seconds of a week from this instant. The weeks begin at the Saturday/Sunday transition. The days of the week are numbered, with Sunday being 0, Saturday is day 6. GPS week 0 began at the beginning of the GPS Time Scale. Within each week the time is usually denoted as the second of the week. This is a number between 0 and 604,800 ( 60 x 60 x 24 x 7). This converter returns the weekly time in GPS seconds; the time that you enter is the SOW. If you know the number of the GPS week since 1980, you may enter it and get the total correct GPS time for the day and time you entered. GPS Week Number Rollover

The GPS Week Number count began at approximately midnight on the evening of 05 January 1980 / morning of 06 January 1980. Since that time, the count has been incremented by 1 each week, and broadcast as part of the GPS message. The GPS Week Number field is modulo 1024. This means that at the completion of week 1023, the GPS week number rolled over to 0 on midnight GPS Time of the evening of 21 August 1999 / morning of 22 August 1999. Note that this corresponded to 23:59:47 UTC on 21 August 1999.
