VCR Universal World Time Display Calculator

This calculator requires the use of Javascript enabled and capable browsers. This creates and displays the time (the SAME time) in the same world format as 99.9% of all the VCRs (video cassette recorders) in the world. As tongue-in-cheek as this is, this clock is at least accurate once a day, twice a day if AM-PM alternates. (OK, this is NOT a real-time clock but it does display what most VCR clocks display...) Our calculator also (accurately) displays the time in metric format, as opposed to other conventional displays. (The metric date is also displayed on the status line of the browser and the current local time and date is below the metric time for comparison.) This proposed idea, often termed Universal Metric Time (UMT), divides the day into 100 equal portions. There are however, proposals that suggest LMT (Local Metric Time) to coincide the current time zone structure. The philosophy behind it is that we are a decimal based society, for the most part, and that a decimal time system would make life easier. I can see the logic in that. Though the division is in 100ths, as opposed to Swatch Beats, which are 1000ths, the basic philosophy is similar and is metric. See our Swatch Internet Time Converter and Display page for more information on that scenario.

While the idea has not gained great support, it may. Please visit A Guide To Metric Time for a more in-depth discussion of the proposal. While this is not the only proposed version of metric time, it appears to us to be the most logical.
