This calculation is to convert the number of board feet to the equivalent number of lineal feet for a given size of board in boardfeet, based on the formula ((12 / (Depth in inches x Width in inches)) x Number of Boardfeet). The board must have a length in board feet. Each field must have a value in it; "0" is the default for boardfeet and MUST be changed. Leading zeros do not effect calculations. Each boardfoot measure must have a width in inches and a depth also in inches associated with it. For instance, a 2 x 4 is (by definition only) 2 inches in depth and 4 inches in width. Those are the defaults for each since 2 x 4s are the most common lumber. It can be any length in boardfeet. A 2 x 4 with a measure of 5.333334 boardfeet, is 8 feet long in lineal feet, given reasonable rounding. The quantity is for how many identical boardfeet measures you wish to include in the calculation. The default is 1; if you had 5 boards of equal boardfeet measure, you would change that to 5. The total number of lineal feet will be displayed as the result. Remember that a boardfoot is a calculation value based on length, width and depth (thickness) of a board; therefore, that same relationship has to be considered in ascertaining the lineal length value from the boardfoot value. The Reset button assigns default values to all fields and clears the total. A value of NaN in either of the totals fields is an error message and indicates an improper entry in one of the factors. To calculate and total quantities of specific sizes of boards, use our Boardfeet Accumulator. To calculate random boards of various sizes (by definition only) defining width, depth, quantity as well as length, use our Boardfeet Calculator.
