This calculator requires the use of Javascript enabled and capable browsers. This script determines in one of two methods, how much water is wasted by a dripping faucet. The first method is for slow, visible leaks. Simply count the number of drips per minute. Enter that number in the DPM field. More than 200 drips per minute is a steady stream and it is advised that you use the second method. The second method is the accumulation of 8 ounces of water in a cup in a given amount of time and is used for the accurate determination of larger leaks. Hold a cup under the stream of drips and accurately measure the time it takes to fill the 8 ounce cup. EXACTLY how many seconds does it take to accumulate 8 ounces in the cup? Enter that number in the seconds field. You may use either method but not both at the same time. Then determine how you would like your answers. Do you want the result in gallons, liters, cubic feet or imperial gallons? Make that selection and then click on Calculate. They believe as we do, that wasting water is a lethal mistake. Please also see our water informational page for more facts.
