Network Activity Calculator

This calculator requires the use of JavaScript enabled browsers. To calculate the live active storage space required and the daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual network data transfer activity (also known as bandwidth use), just fill in the Video Duration fields (from 1 second to no more than 24 hours), the number of SSPs (simultaneous storage processes, also known as disk storage views - disk views are not uniview) per day (typically 1) and the Number of Cameras in operation per day (all - at least 1 but no more than 20, for the same duration); then click on the Calculate button. The calculator will automatically calculate the required Live Disk Storage capacity and estimate your daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual network data transfer activity, based on YOUR selected time per day. You may also need to calculate the Active Disk Retention space required for a number of days and/or the Inactive Tape (archived and compressed) space required. By default those are set to not calculate with 0 (zero) as the default factor. The Total Cycles (daily seconds) of streaming data is automatically calculated.

You may change the value of any gray field, including the Actual Bit Rate field if you wish; make certain your entry is in kilobits per second. Changing the value of ANY gray field will have an effect on all or some of the light blue calculated fields. You may input the time in all hours, all minutes or all seconds if you prefer, or any combination thereof so long as the total does not exceed 24 hours (it will keep you from doing that). All gray fields MUST have a numeric entry, even if it is 0 (zero). You may also change any modifiable value and recalculate without clicking the Clear Values button in order to view what fields change if you wish; make the change(s) and click Calculate. To prepare the calculator for a totally new calculation, click the Clear Values button. Because of the variable factors involved in the typical network and in different storage units, these values can be assumed as extremely close planning estimates only. Keep in mind that 1024Kb=1Gb, 1024MB=1GB, 1024GB=1TB, 1024TB=1PB and 1024PB=1EB. There are 60 seconds in a minute, 60 minutes in an hour, 24 hours in a day, 7 days in a week, 30.5 days in a month, 365 days in a year within this calculator.
