This calculator requires the use of Javascript enabled and capable browsers. This calculator finds the minimum detectable object size per pixel, the total area to be viewed, and the field of view of the lens, based on data entered for the CCD size and resolution, the focal length of the lens, and the distance from the lens to the object being targeted. Enter a numeric value for the lens focal length; the default is 10mm. Then enter a numeric value for the distance from the lens to the object followed by a selection from the drop box for the designation of distance; the combined defaults yield 10 meters. Select the CCD size from the options in the drop box or select CUSTOM. If CUSTOM is selected, enter the numeric value for the custom CCD size in millimeters. The standard default is 1/4 inch and the custom default is 10mm. Select standard resolutions from the drop down box, or select CUSTOM from the same box. If CUSTOM is selected, enter the custom resolution on the following line; the default custom resolution is 0 x 0 pixels. All calculations take place at each entry. You may however, click Calculate to update if needed. You may click Clear Values to begin again. The result is displayed as a very accurate rendering of the minimum detectable size of the target object, in millimeters, the total viewed area in XX by XX format, further modifiable with the selection of the designation for size display. Finally, the field of view is given in degrees.
