Mapping Scale Converter

This converter requires the use of Javascript enabled and capable browsers. This script creates a converted table of represented distances, based on the scale fraction, indicated in the legend of the map. These types of maps would typically be used in marine and aviation operations. Enter the scale fraction of your map; the default is 250,000, a terminal area chart. If the map scale is 1:500,000, you should enter the 500000 in the box. Then click on Convert.
Typical aviation scales are:
Aviation Planning Chart 1:3400000
Jet Navigation Chart 1:2000000
Operational Navigation Chart (WAC) 1:1000000
Tactical Pilotage chart (sectional - VNC) 1:500000
Joint Operations Graphic (terminal area chart - VTA) 1:250000
Low altitude, small area maps vary greatly in scales
Typical marine scales are:
Small coastal area and inland waters, 1:10000, 1:20000, 1:30000 or 1:40000
Deep water navigation charts have much larger scales that vary greatly in scale size
