This converter requires the use of Javascript enabled and capable browsers. This script creates a converted table of represented distances, based on the scale fraction, indicated in the legend of the map. This assumes that a 1:X ratio is designated in the map legend. These types of maps are automotive but because of distances covered, are seldom the same in scale. Also be aware that not all automotive maps are really to scale; some are for purposes of street or area layout. Those that are to scale often do not depict accurate driving distances and times because of hills, valleys, curves and other geographical factors. Enter the scale fraction of your map (it will be a ratio number such as 1:63360, an inch to a mile); the default is 633600, the equivalent of an inch to 10 miles. If the map scale is 1:6336000 (an inch to 100 miles), you should enter the 6336000 in the box. Then click on Convert.
