This calculator is designed to give distance values that are represented on an aviation or nautical chart by a much smaller distance, such as an inch. Enter the scale of 1 to X, where X is the value given on the chart. The default is 63360 which yields the value of 1 mile to 1 inch as a test of the calculator.
