JavaScript Tester
This routine will test for the ability of your browser to use JavaScript at all, but not for a specific version, from 1.0 through 1.8.1 (as of 2009). Different browsers support different capabilities and "compatibility modes"; they may also support a lower version of JavaScript than the native mode of the browser. In either case, a message will tell you it does or it does not currently support JavaScript. If it does not, you may have scripting or JavaScript specifically turned off or disabled in your browser's security settings. View the source code.
